KZN Premier Thami Ntuli Unshaken by EFF’s Support for No-Confidence Motion

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says he is unfazed by the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) decision to back a motion of no confidence against him.

The motion was tabled last month by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), which accuses Ntuli of financial mismanagement and corruption. The vote is expected to take place on Monday next week at the provincial legislature in Pietermaritzburg.

Earlier this week, the EFF confirmed that it would support the MKP-led attempt to remove Ntuli from office. Meanwhile, the MKP is seeking further backing from other political parties to strengthen its bid.

But Ntuli says he is not concerned, arguing that neither the EFF nor the MKP has ever supported the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), which he leads.

“The MK never supported the GPU, including the EFF. When this government was established, they voted together against the establishment of the GPU,” said Ntuli.

“So they are not new voices in terms of saying they do not support the premier or the executive. We are not worried about the motion of no confidence because they’ve never said they have confidence. So it’s not a new thing.”

The vote is expected to test the strength and stability of the GPU, which governs through cooperation among multiple parties.
