EFF to Back MK Party’s No-Confidence Vote Against KZN Premier Thami Ntuli

JOHANNESBURG, 11 December 2025 – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has confirmed it will support the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s motion of no confidence against KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, signalling growing political tension in the province.

The motion, tabled by the MK Party in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, targets Ntuli — a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) — accusing his Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) of mismanagement and failing to address key issues such as poverty, unemployment and service delivery.

EFF leader Julius Malema said on Thursday that the party’s two EFF members in the provincial legislature will support the motion. Malema described the current GPU as “directionless” and said backing the move was not about favouring the MK Party, but rather respecting the will of voters who gave MK the largest share of votes in KwaZulu-Natal in the 2024 elections.

“The support for the motion of no confidence in KwaZulu-Natal is not support for MK. It is support against the neo-liberal forces that came together to form a government against the wishes of the people of KwaZulu-Natal,” Malema said.

The KZN legislature has 80 seats. The MK Party holds 37, the EFF two, and the National Freedom Party (NFP) one. Without the NFP, the governing ANC–IFP–DA coalition no longer has a clear majority, opening the possibility that the motion could succeed if sufficient support is secured.

Meanwhile, Premier Ntuli and ANC leaders have dismissed the motion, insisting the GPU remains stable and focused on service delivery.

The no-confidence vote is expected to be debated early next week, with political analysts saying the outcome could significantly reshape governance in KwaZulu-Natal as South Africa heads toward the 2026 local government elections
