South Africa, 11 December 2025 – A councillor from the MK Party has been named as one of the key suspects in a massive R161 million UIF fraud investigation.
Authorities allege that the suspects, including the councillor, were involved in the misappropriation of funds meant for unemployed workers during the pandemic. The investigation is being led by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies.
Officials have stated that several individuals across different sectors are implicated, and those found guilty could face serious criminal charges, including fraud and corruption.
The SIU has confirmed that the probe is ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may follow as more evidence comes to light.
