Zimbabwe Economic Forum Urges Julius Malema to Focus on South Africa Instead of Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Economic Forum (ZEF) has called on Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema to stop commenting on Zimbabwe’s internal political matters and instead focus on the challenges facing South Africa.

In a statement, the organisation criticised Malema’s remarks regarding the proposed extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office, arguing that such comments amount to interference in the affairs of a sovereign nation.

The ZEF said that while it respects the right of political parties to express their opinions, decisions relating to Zimbabwe’s Constitution and governance should be made solely by the people of Zimbabwe through their own constitutional processes.

The organisation maintained that neither Julius Malema nor the EFF has the authority to influence or direct Zimbabwe’s political affairs. It added that South Africa continues to face pressing issues such as unemployment, crime, inequality and economic challenges, which it believes should be the EFF’s priority.

The forum also praised the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, saying it has made progress in sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, energy, healthcare, education and economic development.

Concluding its statement, the Zimbabwe Economic Forum urged the EFF to refrain from what it described as interference in Zimbabwe’s domestic affairs, insisting that the country’s future should be determined by Zimbabweans themselves in line with their Constitution.

The views in this article are those expressed by the Zimbabwe Economic Forum in its public statement. At the time of publication, Julius Malema and the EFF had not publicly responded.
