Ramaphosa Welcomes Toyota’s R10.4 Billion Hilux Investment as Major Boost for South Africa’s Manufacturing Sector

President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed Toyota South Africa Motors’ R10.4 billion investment in the production of the next-generation Hilux, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in South Africa’s economy and manufacturing capabilities.

Speaking at the launch of Toyota’s new production line at its Prospecton plant in Durban, Ramaphosa said the investment demonstrates the type of long-term commitment needed to drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen South Africa’s automotive industry.

The President said the investment is not only about expanding production facilities and introducing advanced technology, but also about creating employment opportunities, supporting local suppliers, and boosting exports.

Toyota said the investment will modernise its manufacturing operations, increase production capacity, and reinforce South Africa’s position as a key automotive production hub for both the African continent and international markets.

The investment is expected to contribute to economic growth, support thousands of jobs across the automotive value chain, and further strengthen South Africa’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading vehicle manufacturing destinations.
