Police launch manhunt after cash-in-transit robbery in Thokoza
Police are searching for an unconfirmed number of suspects following a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that took place in Thokoza on Saturday, 27 December 2025, at approximately 13h30.
According to reports, a cash-in-transit armoured vehicle was travelling through Thokoza when it was rammed by a white Mercedes-Benz, causing the vehicle to overturn. A group of suspects then disarmed the security officers and bombed the armoured vehicle, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. During the robbery, other suspects allegedly opened fire on the escort vehicle.
The suspects are said to have fled the scene in four vehicles.
Tragically, a 13-year-old girl was struck by a stray bullet during the incident and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. Her condition has not yet been confirmed.
South African Police Service has launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspects and is appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
