South African Police Investigate Suspected Drug Dealer Linked to Unregulated Broncleer Cough Syrup
South African law enforcement in Johannesburg is searching for Caroline Kwangwari, a Zimbabwean national accused of dealing drugs and distributing an unregulated cough syrup called Broncleer.
The MEC for Community Safety recently conducted a raid at a pharmacy in Houghton Park believed to be operated by Kwangwari. She reportedly fled the premises after receiving a tip-off about her impending arrest.
Authorities say Kwangwari is suspected of running a drug hub involved in the production of Broncleer. She is considered a person of interest in drug-related activities in Yeoville, Berea, and Johannesburg Central, as well as in Zimbabwe. Investigators also suspect she may be linked to the export of Broncleer and crystal meth to Zimbabwe.
Ongoing investigations have uncovered information about several syndicates operating in Braamfontein and Johannesburg Central. Police report that several drug dealers are smuggling substances such as skunk from Eswatini into South Africa, using the country as a transit route to Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi.
Authorities have also identified another Zimbabwean national, known only as Vincent, who is allegedly a major drug distributor in Braamfontein. He is believed to operate mainly around End Street and Nugget Street, using cross-border buses and trucks to transport drugs to Zambia, the DRC, and Malawi. These consignments are often offloaded along Zimbabwe’s R1 highway, which connects to South Africa’s N1.
The South African Police Service is urging the public to provide any information, emphasizing that drug traffickers are destroying communities by moving these illegal consignments.
