Mugabe’s Son Fined R5 000 for Possession of Dagga

Tinotenda Mugabe Junior (33), son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has been fined R5 000 after pleading guilty to charges of illegal possession of dagga at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

Mugabe Junior was arrested in October when police found a bag containing dagga, Rizla papers, and a grinder in his possession. The arrest followed a traffic incident in which his car collided with other vehicles. Police reported that the dagga found was worth only R500.

Although a warrant for his arrest had been issued on 6 November after he failed to appear in court, it was withdrawn when he appeared with his lawyer the following day.

Mugabe requested leniency, explaining that he is the father of two young children who rely on him and also manages a farm under his care.
