Woman Arrested at Upington Fuel Station with R670 000 Worth of Dagga

Upington, Northern Cape – A woman has been arrested after police seized a large quantity of dagga at a fuel station in Upington, with the estimated street value of the seized cannabis exceeding R670 000.

According to police, members of the Upington Crime Prevention Unit acted on intelligence received about the suspect’s movements on Friday, 20 March 2026. When officers located the woman at the fuel station, a search of her bags uncovered several large parcels of dagga believed to be destined for distribution.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane confirmed the arrest and said the haul was significant in value, with a street estimate of about R670 500. He explained that the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and related crimes in the region.

“Members of the Upington crime prevention unit intercepted a female suspect allegedly in possession of drugs at a fuel station,” Shemane said, noting that the operation was intelligence‑driven.

ZF Mgcawu District Commissioner Major General Monica Sebili praised the swift action of the officers involved and emphasised the importance of community cooperation in providing information to law enforcement.

The woman is expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on charges related to dealing in dagga, as investigations continue into the source and intended distribution of the drugs.

Authorities have pointed to a broader rise in drug‑related offences in the Northern Cape, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to help keep communities safe.
