Mpumalanga – A suspected counterfeit sneaker operation in Mpumalanga has been dismantled in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough against the illegal trade in fake branded goods.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Hawks, reportedly acted on intelligence and carried out a targeted operation that led to the seizure of large quantities of counterfeit sneakers and the arrest of suspects linked to the network.

Officials say the illicit operation formed part of a broader underground economy dealing in fake luxury and sportswear brands, often transported across provinces or smuggled through border routes. In similar past cases, police have intercepted shipments worth millions of rand, including fake sneakers bearing labels such as Nike, Converse, and Jordan.
