Taxi Operators Filmed Assaulting Motorist in Vanderbijlpark Suspended
The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has confirmed the immediate suspension of three taxi operators affiliated with the Civic Centre Taxi Association following an assault on a motorist in Vanderbijlpark.
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the taxi operators attacking a driver who was allegedly on his way to work with colleagues as part of a lift club. The victim has since opened a case with the police.
SANTACO President Abner Tsebe strongly condemned the attack, stating that no member of a taxi association has the authority to stop vehicles or assault motorists.
He added that such behaviour brings the taxi industry into disrepute and assured the public that disciplinary action would be taken against those involved, while police investigations continue.
