Johannesburg, South Africa – Deputy President of South Africa and senior ANC figure, Paul Mashatile, has called on the African National Congress to allow party contenders to use financial resources to support their internal election campaigns.
Mashatile emphasised that regulating campaign finances could improve transparency and provide equal opportunities for all candidates. Speaking at a recent party meeting, he suggested that a clear framework for campaign funding would help streamline internal elections and reduce informal, behind-the-scenes influence.
He added that such measures could also enhance accountability within the party, ensuring that candidates are able to campaign effectively while adhering to party rules. ANC leadership is expected to discuss the proposal ahead of upcoming internal elections.
