DA Wants Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi Removed
Gauteng, South Africa – 14 November 2025
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for the removal of Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, citing concerns over the controversial Crime Prevention Wardens programme, known as “Amapanyaza.”
The DA plans to table a motion of no confidence in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Party leaders argue that the programme was deployed without proper legal authority, putting thousands of wardens at risk.
“Panyaza cannot continue to be the Premier of Gauteng,” said DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga. “We need accountability and the rule of law upheld.”
A recent Public Protector report found irregularities in the deployment of the wardens, further strengthening the DA’s case. The party is also demanding transparency regarding retraining and integration of the wardens into other provincial security services.
The outcome of the motion will depend on support from other parties in the legislature, as the African National Congress (ANC) maintains a significant presence. The debate is expected in the coming weeks.
