IDAC chief Matthews Sesoko kidnapped, robbed in Kempton Park
Matthews Sesoko, the national operations chief of the Independent Anti-Corruption Directorate (IDAC), was kidnapped last night on the R25 in Kempton Park and robbed of his cellphones and a government laptop.
He was released at around 2am, with the attackers making off with only his digital devices.
Sesoko is a seasoned investigator who was previously the head of investigations at the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
His work includes high-profile investigations into high-ranking police officers and politically sensitive corruption cases, as well as a controversial suspension during state capture.
Initial reports indicate that he was caught driving, robbed, beaten and abandoned in a residential area.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attack was work-related or a theft.
The incident comes amid a surge in kidnappings in Gauteng, with experts noting an increase in the number of “alleged kidnappings” targeting high-value targets.
Law enforcement has launched a full investigation. This is a developing story.
