Midrand couple accused of selling child sexual abuse material back in court in December

The trial of a Midrand couple accused of manufacturing, producing and selling child sexual abuse material has been postponed to December 9, 2025.

Darren Wilken and Tiona Moodley appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The case was postponed to allow prosecutors to finalise their cases and prepare for the transfer of the case to the High Court.

Moodley was released on bail of R15 000 last week after successfully challenging his refusal of bail.

The couple are implicated in a global child sexual abuse ring following an investigation, involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local authorities, after a child in the United States reported the rape.

The couple face charges of money laundering, drug possession and a host of other computer-related crimes.

Founder of Women and Men Against Child Abuse Miranda Jordan expressed concern about his bail conditions.

“How can they effectively monitor access to his computer? What message does it send that someone involved in dealing with over 19 million child sexual abuse images can be released on bail? He is by no means an innocent ‘puppet’, and his claim to be one is strongly contradicted by the facts.

“The actions of Wilken and Moodley contributed after the fact to the destruction of the childhoods of countless children, and they must face the full consequences of their crimes without mercy,” Jordan added.
