35-year-old Mozambican national found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison for rape
A 35-year-old Mozambican national, Alex Armand Dango, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Boschfontein Regional Court on 14 October 2025 for rape.
According to the information, in 2022, Dango raped an eleven-year-old victim in Hectorspruit near Malelane. The deceased was a neighbour, and Dango was 32 years old at the time.
During the day, while she was at home in her room heating up food for her siblings, her biological mother was at work, the suspect entered the room and ordered the deceased to undress but she refused. He took off her clothes, grabbed her, laid her on the bed and raped her before leaving.
One day in 2022, during the day, she was playing in the room when the accused entered, closed the door, and told her to be quiet. He threatened to beat her if she made a noise with a stick. He took off her clothes and the victim, raped her, and when he was done, he left
On Sunday, 06 August 2023, while she was at home during the day, her biological mother came to her and said that she had a bad dream about her (the victim). She asked if anything bad had happened to her. The victim then disclosed the rape incidents that had occurred. A case was then opened, and an investigation was conducted.
The accused was arrested in Hectorspruit on 06 August 2023 and was identified by the victim when he was arrested.
Dango has been attending court since his arrest, as he is considered a flight risk. He was in the country illegally and was also charged with violating the Immigration Act.
The accused was sentenced to 25 years in prison for rape. He was then cautioned and released for breaching the Immigration Act. His name was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm. He was also declared unfit to work with children.
The acting Commissioner of Mpumalanga Police, Major General Dr. Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the sentence and thanked the NPA for recognizing the hard work of the investigator, who left no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrator was brought to justice.
