Malema Warns Mkhwanazi: “We Are Not Scared of Policemen”

Johannesburg – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has issued a strong warning to KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, telling him not to drag the party into internal police disputes.

Malema made the remarks during the EFF’s National Voter Registration campaign, where he responded to ongoing tensions linked to allegations emerging from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The EFF leader firmly rejected any attempt to associate him or his party with conflicts within the police, particularly those involving Crime Intelligence figures. He accused Mkhwanazi of repeatedly mentioning his name while dealing with internal battles.

“We are not scared of policemen,” Malema said, adding that the EFF would not be intimidated or drawn into what he described as “nonsense” within the South African Police Service.

Malema stressed that the party stands for truth and accountability, but would not support any individual blindly. He also criticised what he sees as attempts to portray critics of Mkhwanazi as enemies.

The tensions come after Malema was mentioned during testimony at the Madlanga Commission, where allegations surfaced linking him to a controversial Tshwane security tender. He has strongly denied any wrongdoing, insisting he has no involvement in corruption or police dealings.

At the heart of the dispute are broader claims of political interference, factional battles within the police, and allegations involving senior figures in Crime Intelligence.

Political analysts say the public exchange highlights growing friction between political leaders and law enforcement officials, especially as high-stakes investigations continue.

As the situation unfolds, the standoff between Malema and Mkhwanazi is expected to intensify, adding further pressure to an already volatile political climate in South Africa.
