An 18‑year‑old teenager has been arrested in the Eastern Cape after allegedly stabbing his four‑year‑old brother to death in their home in Walmer, police have confirmed.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday when officers responded to reports of a murder at a residence on Tshanga Street in the Walmer location at about 01:45. On arrival, police found the young boy’s body lying inside the house with visible stab wounds.

According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the victim had been sleeping in a room shared with his older brother when the attack occurred. Their parents discovered the child covered in blood and immediately contacted the authorities.

“The suspect was arrested at the scene for the murder of his sibling,” Captain Janse van Rensburg said, adding that the reason behind the killing remains unknown and is still under investigation.

The tragic case has shocked the local community and drawn attention to violent incidents involving children, a concern amidst ongoing national debates about safety and crime. South Africa has seen several high‑profile and heartbreaking cases involving the murder of young people in recent years, underscoring broader issues of violence in society.

Police investigations are continuing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the boy’s death and any possible motive.
