NPA Denied Appeal Over Omotoso Acquittal

JOHANNESBURG – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has been denied permission to appeal the acquittal of televangelist Timothy Omotoso.

Omotoso and his two co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, were acquitted of 32 charges, including sexual assault, racketeering, and human trafficking.

In April, Judge Irma Schoeman of the Gqeberha High Court ruled that the State had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The NPA later applied for leave to appeal the ruling but the court has now dismissed that application as well.

The decision marks another major blow for the prosecution in a case that has drawn national attention for several years.
