Passenger Killed, Five Injured in Violent Attack on Long-Distance Bus in Limpopo

A long-distance bus travelling along the N1 highway in Limpopo came under heavy gunfire in the early hours of Wednesday morning, leaving one passenger dead and at least five others injured. The bus was reportedly ambushed by armed assailants who opened fire before storming inside to rob terrified commuters of their belongings.

According to preliminary reports, the attack happened near a remote stretch of the highway as the bus was en route to Gauteng. Witnesses say the gunmen forced the driver to stop by blocking the road, then fired multiple shots at the vehicle, shattering windows and causing panic among passengers.

Once inside, the attackers allegedly demanded money, cellphones, and luggage. Several passengers were assaulted at gunpoint as they attempted to hide their valuables.

Paramedics and police responded to the scene shortly after the assailants fled. One victim was declared dead on the scene, while five others were rushed to nearby hospitals with gunshot wounds and injuries sustained during the chaos.

Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for the suspects and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward. Authorities say bus-related criminal attacks have been on the rise and have urged transport companies to strengthen security measures along long-distance routes, especially during early morning and late-night hours.

The identity of the deceased passenger has not yet been released, pending notification of their family.

Investigations are ongoing.
