Matric student, Mpho Sinxesi, 19, has collapsed and died while walking with friends.

THE Free State community is in shock following the sudden death of matric student, 19, Mpho Sinxesi, who collapsed and died while walking with friends.

According to reports, Mpho, a Grade 12 student at Nkgopolong Secondary School, was among the best students at the school and was known for his intelligence, kindness, and respect at home and in class.

Eyewitnesses said Mpho was walking with a group of friends when he collapsed unexpectedly.

One of his classmates described the moment as traumatic.

“We thought he had collapsed, so we tried to lift him up to get help. But he wasn’t breathing. Everyone started crying. It was sudden and painful,” said the student.

The Free State Department of Education has expressed its condolences to the Sinxesi family and the entire community of Nkgopolong Secondary School. Department spokesperson Howard Ndaba said that they would provide emotional support to students and teachers close to Mpho.

“It is a very sad loss, especially as he prepares for his final matriculation exams. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” Ndaba said.

At home, the Sinxesi family is struggling to come to terms with their loss. Mpho’s mother, who was described as heartbroken and inconsolable, said her daughter was the pride of the family.

She was humble and loved to cook for us. She respected everyone and always said she wanted to make me proud by passing matric with distinction, she said through tears.

Members of the community have been visiting the Sinxesi home to offer prayers and support. Many described Mpho as a bright star with a promising future.

Police have confirmed that no foul play is suspected at this time, but an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

As the province prepares for its end-of-year exams, the massacre has come as teachers remind students to take care of their health and seek help if they are feeling unwell or stressed.

Mpho’s funeral arrangements will be announced once the family has completed their arrangements. In the meantime, his classmates have said they will donate funds to honour his memory.
