Cape Town, South Africa – The family of a 19‑year‑old man shot dead at a spaza shop in Mfuleni has spoken out, expressing deep grief and calling on police to urgently find those responsible.

The victim, Litha Govuza, was shot while buying a drink and snacks at a spaza shop on the evening of Saturday, 21 March. He was reportedly with a friend when three unidentified men exited a vehicle and opened fire without warning. Govuza was hit in the head and upper body and died at the scene. His friend survived but was wounded.

In a viral video of the attack circulating on social media, the shooters can be seen targeting the two young men as they stood near the shop. Eyewitnesses told police that one of the men recording the incident urged the gunman to fire before the shots were discharged.

Litha’s uncle said the family is devastated by the senseless violence. “We never had any problems with Litha. He was a good boy who loved his church,” the uncle said, describing his nephew as well‑loved and dedicated to his community.

Western Cape police detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspects. A police spokesman confirmed that provincial Serious and Violent Crime detectives are investigating the case and have released images of the persons of interest, appealing to the public for information that could lead to arrests.
