Stolen Shipping Containers Recovered in Oaklands, KZN
Oaklands, KwaZulu-Natal – Eight (8) stolen shipping containers belonging to Asian companies were recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) following an intelligence-driven operation.
RUSA acted on information indicating that nineteen (19) brand-new and used shipping containers had been stolen from storage yards in Edwin Swales and Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal. Criminal cases were registered at Brighton Beach SAPS and Umlazi SAPS.
A RUSA drone pilot searched an area provided by an informer and located containers within approximately twenty (20) minutes. Reaction Officers were then dispatched to Moodleys Lane, where eight (8) containers were found.
The containers were identified as belonging to Pacific International Lines (PIL) and Evergreen Marine. Durban-based storage yards supplied serial numbers, confirming that the containers had been stolen.
Representatives of both companies met with Reaction Officers on Thursday at approximately 13:30 and positively identified the containers. Among those recovered were three (3) brand-new containers valued at approximately R200,000 each, which were destined for China.
A man found on the premises confirmed ownership of the property and provided details of a tenant who had leased the site. Investigations are ongoing.
